Srinagar
Sri
means Lakshmi or wealth and nagar' a city. The Summer capital of
J & K State, Srinagar city has vital role inthe history of
Kashmir, For this reason, Persian Chronicles call it Shahr - i -
Kashmir or 'City of Kashmir'. According to Kalhana's
Rajtarangini,' Srinagar was founded by King Ashoka in 3rd
centurey BC. The present city was founded by Parvarasana II in
AD 630, in a place now know as Panderethan, about 15 km from the

Dal Lake
Dal Lake 8 km has a total area of 26 sq km. At Dal gate a gate
lets out the lake water to prevent it from flooding. Dal has
theree islands, Silver Island popular as Char Chinar built by
prince Murad, son of Emperor Shah Hahan, Golden Island at the
south end, Hehur Park, an island just few yards away from the
road side. Water skiing is a favorite sport among tourists
during summer, Motor launches with ski boards are available on
hire. During the Winter season migratory birds float in the lake
making it a magnificent science.

Gulmarg
Gulmarg "Meadow of Flowers" was discovered in 16th century
during the reign of Sultan Yousuf Shah.
Gulmarg has a Golf Culub established in 1902 with Capt, John
Hills as first Honorary Secretary, The 8 hole golf course of
1892 has developed into an 18 hole golf course par 72, where
competitions are held ever summer.
Another hightest in the Wold in Gulmarg is Gandola Cable Car,
installed by a world renowned France Company. The first phase is
up to Kongdori 3045 meters, where a sledge or ski can be hired
even in Summer where the slopes are coverd with Snow.
